HERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO NOTE

Asylum seekers must submit Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal, within one year of their arrival in the United States. They may also include their spouse and children who are in the United States on the same application.

After filing the application, asylum seekers are usually scheduled for an interview with a USCIS asylum officer. During this interview, they will provide testimony and evidence to support their claim for asylum. A decision on the application is typically made within 180 days.

Asylum seekers may apply for employment authorization if their asylum application has been pending for more than 150 days without a decision.
